In my continuing research on 156 Squadron I have spent an inordinate
amount of time searching for records in the London Gazette.
The search engine results from this site are relatively poor.
Give only a surname and you are more than likely swamped with
results, give more that that and your are likely to get nothing.
As a result I have downloaded a lot of details, and applied my
own indexing. I now have details on around 18000 awards which
are searchable by Name and First Initial.
The search engine also has what is called a SOUNDEX search (i.e.
Sounds Like) In this type of search the name Riley would return hits
on Reilley, Reelly etc.
The results page shows the London Gazette date and Gazette
Number, given these details you should be able to search the London
Gazette Site successfully
