I'm trying to find some information about my Great Uncle, F.O. Leonard Crampton, who died during the second raid on Hamburg on the 26/27 July 1943. Website has been really useful so far, any further information that anyone can share would be much appreciated.

A superb website. Very helpful and very well laid-out. I am currently working on the history of Stalag Luft VII (Bankau), and have come across F/Sgt Neil Ostrom and Sgt Charles Shaw, who baled out on 6 October 1944, and became POWs at Luft 7, where they arrived on 21 October.

I'm working on Bill Cleland's crew and here is his DSO recommendation:
Acting Flight Lieutenant William John CLELAND, DFC (174404) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No 156 Squadron. (Pilot/Captain of aircraft; sorties 73; flying hours 363; since previous award, sorties 43; flying hours 201.) This officer has always displayed a fine fighting spirit and great zest for operations. He has a fine record of operational sorties and has always shown outstanding courage and determination, even in the face of heaviest opposition. Many of his missions have entailed the fulfilment of difficult and dangerous duties. He has invariably performed them with great gallantry and efficiency. Flight Lieutenant Cleland has always set a high standard of tenacity and devotion to duty.
I have refs for the other crew members' recommendations and will add them in a couple of weeks.

Just watched Bomber Boys on tv. how much do we owe to all these brave men. So awful that they were not recognised after the war by Churchill and the goverment.
